Geological information is widely applicable for industrial and infrastructural development, management of natural resources, spatial planning, environment protection, etc. The number of fields of effective application of geological data is constantly increasing. However, geological data, being presented in geoscientific reports, maps, databases or scientific publications are hardly accessible to planners, managers or other groups of society that need these data for practical use.
               The monograph “Geology of the Šiauliai Area” contains generalized comprehensive information about geology, geomorphology, mineral resources, groundwater, environmental geology, engineering geological conditions and other geological aspects of Šiauliai city and its environs. This publication is based on the data of integrated geological mapping at a scale 1:50 000 and other projects of practical geological research completed in the area under consideration. The monograph is intended for a wide range of potential readers: practicians dealing with geological information, teachers and environmentalists.
